Why as women are we still suppressing our sexuality? Ourselves? Why is it still immoral to have casual sex?

Why do I have to pretend as if I don’t like sex? I’m not asexual. I’m fun, beautiful and I love myself.

Stop passing judgment. Stop assuming that the lady walking home at 11 a.m. is ashamed of herself. Stop assuming that she had casual sex; don’t even assume she had sex.

Keep your crinkled nose, eye-brow lifted, twisted face to yourself. Why is sleeping with 10, 100, or 1,000 partners shameful?

I have a vagina; stop judging me for using it. And why does “casual sex equal bad”? Why doesn’t it equal “Hooray!” or equal “Yeahhhh! Pimped another one!”?   more »

A bit premature, sure, but hey, the mood is festive enough. On Thursday night at the historic Beacon Theater on New York's Broadway, former President Bill Clinton hosted a not-exactly-intimate birthday soiree for his wife, a Democratic presidential candidate. She's turning 60 Friday, and that needs to be celebrated -- and, of course, politically exploited.

And so for weeks, Clinton has hawked party passes like a scalper selling Madonna tickets, by e-mail and direct mail.

Seats in the nosebleed section went for $100 each, while the best ones, all the way up front in the "Rockstar" category, cost $2,300. The grand total of the evening comes out to more than $1.5 million, and every single dollar goes into Clinton's campaign coffers.   more »

We have a situation right now in which there are several major parts of the news media that are for all practical purposes part of "movement conservatism" -- Fox News, the New York Post, the Washington Times -- and in which other news organizations are intimidated, at least to some extent.

I sometimes talk about what I call "asymmetrical intimidation." If you say a true but unflattering thing about Bush or in fact about any other prominent conservative, oh, boy!

People are going to go after you. I mean, I've got people working full-time going after me, right? But if you say a false, unflattering thing about a Democrat or a progressive, no risk ...

And that shapes coverage, no question about it. It's better now, but it's still very asymmetric. The other thing we should mention about the media is their addiction to the trivial.   more »

Right-wing and neo-conservative political forces called for campus mobilizations 22 – 26 October 2007 for “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week” events.

They deliberately used the provocative term “Islamo-Fascism,” linking Islam (and blurring the religion, the countries where it is a majority, and its adherents) with the most despised political movement in history – fascism.

Their call predicted “the biggest conservative campus protest ever” and identified their goal as “to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat.”

The very language of their goals made clear that this is not solely a racist assault on Muslims, Arabs, Arab-Americans, South Asians and anyone viewed as sympathetic towards those communities.   more »
