Over the last six months, I've noticed an increasing number of press articles about how high school teens are leaving MySpace for Facebook.
That's only partially true. There is indeed a change taking place, but it's not a shift so much as a fragmentation. Until recently, American teenagers were flocking to MySpace. The picture is now being blurred. Some teens are flocking to MySpace. And some teens are flocking to Facebook. Who goes where gets kinda sticky... probably because it seems to primarily have to do with socio-economic class. more »

Until recently, Clinton distanced herself from the liberal, anti-war wing of the Democratic Party on Iraq - a position that her advisers said was true to her convictions as well as smart general-election strategy.
But, under pressure from activists who dominate primary and caucus voting, she has steadily edged to the left. She told the crowd on Tuesday that she had been calling for a troop withdrawal "for some time", not mentioning that her rivals have held that position for a longer period. On the other hand, she said some troops will need to remain in Iraq to contain al-Qaeda, protect Kurds, keep an eye on Iran, protect the US Embassy and maybe train Iraqi forces. The answer offered a little something for everybody, for or against US involvement in Iraq. Pretty slick. more »

This Democratic praise for Lugar serves to expose the real political character of the party’s supposed opposition to the Iraq war.
The aim of the six-term Republican Senator from Indiana is not to end the US imperialist intervention in Iraq and the wider region, but rather to rescue it. His argument boils down to a call for a more rational use of US military power by abandoning efforts to pacify Iraqi cities or suppress sectarian conflicts, concentrating instead on defending strategic US interests, first and foremost, oil. One of the key rationales given for such a policy is the need to use the US armed forces elsewhere, including, undoubtedly, in a future military intervention against Iran. more »

Blair is as suited to being a peace envoy for the Middle East as Osama Bin Laden is for being Saudi ambassador to the US (though the Saudis did at least disown him).
Of course, Americans wouldn't be horrified, disgusted or even consider resorting to mass civil protest and even violence at such an appointment, heaven forbid, now would they? They wouldn't be in the slightest vengeful, infuriated or liable to over-react at the sight of Osama wandering the streets of New York, glad-handing the natives and offering helpful suggestions on how to improve the nation's foreign policy, surely? I'm in the Middle East and the reaction to this here so far has been largely one of simple stunned disbelief, it's the ultimate sick joke - the man jointly responsible for the invasion of Iraq. more »
