Progressives are clamoring for Gore to ride to the rescue

On the campaign trail, sources close to former vice president Al Gore said the likelihood of him announcing as a candidate for president depended on the outcome of the upcoming hurricane season.

"Last year was supposed to be a record-breaker and we were thinking for sure Al would jump in," said one Gore confidante. "Instead, the number of hurricanes was below average and most of them were quite small."

But with forecasters predicting 2007 could produce the most destructive hurricane activity in history, Gore advisers were optimistic.

"Our dream is two or three Katrina-like storms," said one. "If that happens, the presidency is as good as ours."   more »

In one of the more interesting exchanges from the New Hampshire Democratic debate, John Edwards takes Senators Clinton and Obama to task for not opposing Bush's Iraq War bill more vehemently.

John Edwards (no more Mr. Nice Guy from 2004) pulls no punches in differentiating between what he considers a Democrat who leads versus one that follows.

While Hillary Clinton kept trying the make the debate about how all of the '08 candidates were united against Bush, and others like Bill Richardson hammered away on their resumes, Edwards consistently made the most persuasive point.

At the crucial moment when the President vetoed the Iraq bill with timetables and sent it back, Democrats like Clinton and Obama needed to show more backbone and they didn't.   more »

The Bush Regime insists that planned missile interceptors and radars in Poland and the Czech Republic are no threat to Moscow.

The Pentagon claims the system is designed to shoot down missiles from Iran and North Korea.
