The assumption that porn objectifies women as an act of god is little different than the assumption that men are genetically better at math and science than women are.

The belief that elimination of porn is necessary to achieving a gender-neutral society is ludicrous. Is it possible for people to have non-sexist sex? Then why is it not possible for people to film, photograph, and write about non-sexist sex?

The answer, at least in our current society, lies in the fact that we live in a male-dominated society, where gender bias is co-reproduced in the capitalist system.   more »

Hillary Clinton insisted that Florida, a pivotal state in the last two presidential elections, cannot be ignored.

Her case was bolstered by a huge turnout among Democratic voters, with over one million going to the polls. Her aides said that amounted to more voters than had voted in the Democratic race so far.

The former First Lady won 50 per cent of the vote. Mr Obama took 33 per cent and John Edwards 14 per cent.

"I am convinced that with this resounding vote, with the millions of Americans who will vote next Tuesday, we will send a clear message that America is back and we will take charge of our destiny once again," she said to a boisterous crowd.   more »

Any Republican president would be a disaster, but McCain would be the biggest disaster of all, because, both by who he is and what he professes, he encourages the US, as Reagan did, to engage in sentimental, nostalgic wishful thinking about the effects of American "goodness" and "power".

The nation, which is at last waking up to the disasters of the last twenty-eight years--the disasters of the "free market" and "making the world safe for democracy" as a cover for ruthless exploitation of all natural resources no matter where they are and who owns them--would succumb the fantasy again, at least long enough for those disasters to be compounded and rendered absolutely unfixable.

McCain is a walking delusion--that we really are brave, that we meant well, that mistakes were made but the policies themselves were sound.

McCain reassures us that we weren't so bad after all, when we were. We can't come to terms with why the US is in the pickle it is in without consigning McCain to the dustheap.   more »

The Ted Kennedy, Patrick and Caroline endorsements only confirm their desire to keep the Kennedy Clan/Dynasty the "head" of the Democratic party.

Camelot is long gone - talk about "old politics." They accused Hillary of old politics when the internationally well-respected Madeline Albright stood behind her at the podium-it's the old timers they said.

Well, you can't get any older than Ted Kennedy. If you look at the CNN picture on their webstory 1-28-08, it tells it all. Hillary is smiling and moving forward. Ted and Obama are both looking at Hillary with miserable faces and clearly either scared or jealous as hell.

Ted is simply jealous of Bill and Hillary Clinton - it's the Kennedys v the Clintons. Obama is simply a vehicle being used by Ted and Caroline Kennedy in an attempt to maintain any Kennedy importance that may remain.   more »
