If casual sex is supposedly an inherently male instinct, why are women's appetites increasing as gender roles become more equal?

There is plenty of evidence that gay men are far more promiscuous than their heterosexual counterparts. A gay friend once suggested a very simple explanation:

'Listen, man, if heterosexual men like you could go to a bar, catch the eye of a young, seriously attractive woman and have sex with her there and then in the loo, with no strings attached, it might make you more promiscuous.

'If, after you've recovered your energy an hour later, you could repeat the same with another beauty, it might make you even more so. The main difference between gays and straights,' he said, 'is that most women are not up for this sort of thing.'   more »

This country badly needs a decent president but Iowa voters went to their caucuses and selected instead two preachers, one ordained, the other self-anointed and both successful manipulators of cheap cliches purportedly leading us, in one case, to Christ and, in the other, to hope and change.

How Huckabee, a cruel purveyor of Christian heresies about women and gays, would bring us closer to the Lord is anyone's guess.

As for Obama, we noted some time back that "he's taken the easy way out and applied the marketing principles of Tony Robbins and Marianne Williamson to a political campaign.

Having gone through eight years of EST with Bill Clinton and almost that much of AA with George Bush, we should be burned out on psycho-therapeutics as opposed to physical reality but sadly many are taken in by Obama's covert message that if you trust in hope you don't have to worry about the details like pensions and health care."   more »

For the 2008 presidential election, Ann Lewis, senior campaign adviser for the Hillary Clinton campaign, has identified A new voting bloc: the Single Anxious Female, or SAF, a moniker that, naturally, was mocked even as it was incorporated wholesale into election analysis.

In previous cycles we've had values voters, Nascar dads and soccer moms. Catchy and advertising-ready, such insta-demographics slip into place alongside evergreens like Jewish voters, African Americans, Latinos and evangelicals.

"Let me start with the biggest number that I think in terms of the general election and the difference women can make," Lewis said at Clinton's campaign headquarters in Virginia.

"The first number is 20 million. Those are the 20 million single women who did not vote in November 2004. Five million were registered and did not vote and 15 million were not registered at all."   more »

I was not at all surprised by last night's Iowa caucus results. In fact, I fully expected them.

However, I have substantial concerns about the choices made.

Were this a personality or "likability" contest, I would probably concur with the results on both, the Republican and Democratic sides.

Both Huckabee and Obama seem like very likable individuals. They both possess keen intelligence, quick wit and come across as genuinely nice guys.

But, are either of these men equipped and prepared to deal with a dangerous, complex and in many ways, chaotic, contradictory world?   more »
