Being queer to me has always been about my community, my culture, and my way of looking at the world, not just who I love and who I fuck.
So I gladly welcome the queer heterosexuals into the fold. It's the religious right's worst nightmare: We've infiltrated the ranks! Our men have taught your men how to dress better, and our women have sold your women devices to replace your men! And now that we're in your most private and sacred of spaces - the bedroom - you're having sex like queers and you don't even know it! more »

Republicans and GOP-leaning "independents" (meaning, deep-dyed whites) are crossing over in herds to vote for Obama.
They've gotten the message: happy days are here again, when the darkies smiled and were careful not to hurt our feelings by telling the truth. That's the kind of "change" we've always "hoped" for, by golly! The white liberal/left, ineffectual and geographically scattered, are drawn irresistibly to the Black man who regales them with sweet nothings. Literally, nothing in the way of the concrete policies for peace and social justice they claim to champion. more »

It used to be said that religion was the opium of the masses. As long as people were promised eternal paradise in the future for chanting “Mumbo Jumbo” their rulers could basically get away with anything during their short mortal years.
Now we need more than God. Along comes the cavalry aka the entertainment industry. What better way to keep the masses somatized than to give them the lowest common denominator? It's not quite bread and circuses. More like shopping and spectacle. Film has long been a fertile field of the spectacle, with "Hollywood" connoting a world of glamour, publicity, fashion, and excess. Hollywood film has exhibited grand movie palaces, spectacular openings with searchlights and camera-popping paparazzi, glamorous Oscars, and stylish hi-tech film. more »

, Nader in no sense represents a genuine alternative to the two big business parties, or to capitalist politics as a whole.
The Radical Left opposes Nader not because he chooses to run in the elections, but because of the program and perspective he advances. He is not a socialist or a representative of the working class, but a middle-class reformer who, as he explained in the course of his interview, feels shut out of the political system by the swing to the right by the Democrats and Republicans over the past three decades. more »

It's become abundantly clear that Hillary will be attacked for anything, while Obama will be given a free pass on everything.
Unless she remains "sugar and spice and everything nice", she will be viewed as a bitch and he is allowed to say anything against her and that's quite alright. After all, it doesn't matter if he distorts her record or misinforms, he knows people will just "believe" everything that comes out of his mouth. This is a campaign, not a beauty contest and Obama has not been vetted by the media or his followers. Therein likes the double standard. more »
